I have worked with dancer/choreographer Lydia Swift a number of times, investigating the relationship between painted objects, lights, sounds and a body in space. Initially we met in a range of spaces across London including Chisenhale Studios and Siobhan Davies Studios to work with a set of objects and sounds I constructed in Manchester suitable to travel with by train to London. I was interested in finding ways to collaborate with people outside of Manchester which were relatively low cost and with a significantly reduced footprint. The two objects I constructed were made with movement in mind and could be assembled and reassembled relatively quickly. I also created a set of sounds to fill the space with as we worked, interested in how things would shift as the sounds we used changed.
Since then I have also worked with Lydia as part of Dislocate at CCA Derry-Londonderry. Adding light to the elements which filled the space as a means to further expand the working environment without increasing the physical materials used, we also worked with projections of our previous work together creating links between all of the various spaces we had worked in as well as between us and our younger selves.
